The 500th Ship in 2004 at Sharjah
Container Terminal (SCT), "Global Progress"

As one of Sharjah Container Terminal’s oldest customers
it was perhaps fitting that the annual presentation for the 500th ship call
in 2004 was made to Global Container Lines (GCL).
Captain Sergiy Lavrentyuk accepted the commemorative shield from SCT
terminal manager Steve Ogden and Gulftainer commercial manager Keith Nuttall
on 24th September during the call of the 700 TEU/20,000 GRT MV “Global
Progress”.
GCL’s roots can be traced back to the early 1980’s when the line was
established to serve the trade between East Africa, the Indian Ocean and the
Gulf.
Since its inception, GCL has enjoyed steady growth and continued
diversification of its service portfolio-which includes containers, general
cargo and project cargo.
GCL’s services include movement of General Cargo, Containers, Rolling Stock,
Project and Bulk Cargoes. The company features a fleet of modern, fully
geared and efficient vessels including Multipurpose, RO/RO, Container, Heavy
lift vessels, and Bulk Carriers.
The well established service to Sharjah is part of the schedule operating
between East African ports, Pakistan, India and the Gulf.
SCT terminal manager Steve Ogden remarked “Global are like part of the
family at SCT and we always have an excellent rapport with the ships and
local office personnel”.
